    At the core of every cycloidal gear speed reducer is an eccentric input shaft that drives one or two cycloidal discs \u2014 also called epitrochoidal plates \u2014 in a planetary-like rolling motion inside a ring of cylindrical pins (the pin wheel). The outer profile of each cycloidal disc is precisely machined as a modified trochoid curve, designed so that as the disc orbits, its teeth mesh continuously with the pin wheel pins. Because the disc teeth and pins are always in contact across roughly one-third of the pin circle simultaneously, load is never concentrated on a single tooth pair as it would be in standard involute gearing. This is the root cause of the cycloidal planetary gear speed reducer’s extraordinary torque density and shock resistance.<\/p>\n
